Lovers of the Oromarso

Despite the title, this is not the  story of young lovers growing up in a corner of Calabria; more simply, we are a large group of friends united by their passion for the mountains and for this part of Calabria, characterized by the spectacular mountain range of Orsomarso that provides a splendid frame to the diverse Tyrrhenian coast. We know and live in these places, listen to the words of the woods, breathe its perfume and so we are always ready to defend them and protect them.

The mountains of Orsomarso accompany us along the coastal road from Aieta to Belevedere M.. Tuning inwards,once you have arrived in Calabria (if coming from north), you will come across Ajeta and Tortora.

From Scalea you first head for Papasidero - the center of the natural reserve "Valley of the Lao" - and the "Grotta del Romito" (cave of the hermit) with the engraving primigenius cast in stone, considered to be one of the most beautiful stone carvings that exist.

Then to Orsomarso where we find the nature reserve of the river Argentina; further on from S. Maria del Cedro you can go up again the route to Abatemarco, reaching Verbicaro or Grisolia. From Diamante, along the course of the Corvino, you can climb up Buonvicino. Four basins flow into the valley of the Lao, in an area that is not very wide, but provide varied walks with different and spectacular backgrounds.

Some of these paths have been trodden by humans since time immemorial, like the one that runs along the Lao River, passing through the "Grotto del Romito" up to Papasidero or those who made up the Salt Road which was used to transport salt from the mines of Lungro.

We are sure that if you walk the paths that we propose, you will also become lovers of the Orsomarso!
